Tampa, Florida served as host city for the College of Psychiatric and Neurologic Pharmacist’s 18th Annual Meeting held April 19-22. This four-day conference hosted 656 attendees and featured nearly 30 hours of cutting-edge scientific presentations, one industry supported symposium, three product theaters and a display of 186 scientific posters. Jacquelyn Canning, PharmD, BCPP, Assistant Professor, Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, Albany, NY, served as Program Chair of the CPNP Annual Meeting. Sarah Melton, PharmD, BCPP, CGP, FASCP, BCACP, Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice, Gatton College of Pharmacy, East Tennessee State University, Johnson City, TN, served as chair of Recertification continuing education. CPNP’s 19th Annual Meeting will be held April 17-20, 2016 at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Kicking off the meeting was a keynote address presented by Dr. Lisa Dixon on The Science of Recovery in Severe Mental Illness. Monday’s keynote delved into the many dimensions and definitions of recovery and the importance of a new conceptualization of recovery involving illness and treatment understanding and illness management. Drs. Joseph Parks and Troy Trygstad provided an in depth review of the Affordable Care Act in relation to mental health care and gaps in service delivery. Along with challenging, thought-provoking keynote addresses, the meeting provided over 25 additional hours of varied programming on topics such as psychosis risk syndrome, psychiatric and ambulatory care collaboration, pain management, depression in patients with cancer, and much more. This year’s Annual Meeting also offered specific programming for residents and students.

The CPNP Foundation hosted the traditional NAMI Walk during the Annual Meeting raising over $4600 for the National Alliance on Mental Illness. Additionally, the Foundation also sponsored a keynote presentation by Dr. Michael Friedman on Stigma and Psychiatric Disorders: Understanding and Managing Personal Biases.  

In addition to providing high quality education, the following CPNP business and recognition was conducted at the CPNP Annual Meeting.

OFFICER AND COMMITTEE CHAIR INSTALLATION

Officer transitions were announced with CPNP President Steven Burghart, DPh, MBA, BCPP, Director of Pharmacy, Rolling Hills Hospital, Franklin, TN, passing the gavel to President-Elect Raymond Love, PharmD, BCPP, FASHP, Professor, University of Maryland, and Baltimore, MD. Also recognized as new President-Elect Christopher Thomas, PharmD, BCPP, BCPS, Clinical Pharmacist in Psychiatry, Chillicothe VAMC, Chillicothe, OH. All will assume their duties beginning in July of 2015.
