From Rating Scales to Reality: Translating Clinical Trial Data into Meaningful Clinical Outcomes in Schizophrenia
Expert faculty will conduct live, interactive presentations to help participants resolve issues surrounding the difficulty of translating findings from clinical trial study methods into daily practice and management of schizophrenia, with particular focus on rating scales. Faculty will review practical insights into answering questions like:
- “Which rating scales are best for screening, assessment, and maintenance?”
- “Who is the best practitioner to complete the scale?”
- “How frequently should the scale be used?”
- “How is the score interpreted?”
- “Is there a core group of symptoms that should be assessed?”
- “How do we translate clinical trial data to clinical practice?”
An interactive approach will be used to improve the learning experience. Audience participation will be encouraged by incorporating audience response keypads and interactive questioning.

Long-Acting Injectable Antipsychotics: A to Z
This engaging, interactive educational session will look back on the history of long-acting injectable antipsychotic agents used in the treatment of schizophrenia. We will review relevant pearls to provide a framework for younger clinicians who were not present for the evolution of this class and may not be aware of historical issues with this formulation, including pharmacokinetic differences, administration issues, and potential barriers to use. Expert speakers will provide a detailed outline of all long-acting injectables currently FDA-approved for schizophrenia and examine how they may optimally be used to improve adherence and patient care in a case-based approach. Pros/cons for each agent will be discussed, as well as practical pharmacokinetics, dosing and switching strategies, and administration pearls that pharmacists may use to assist nursing staff in the administration of these agents.

When Antidepressants Fall Short: Augmentation Strategies in Major Depressive Disorder
Expert faculty will review diagnosis and treatment of complicated Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) when conventional treatments fail. An interactive approach will be used to improve the learning experience. Audience participation will be encouraged by incorporating audience response keypads to respond to clinical cases. Participants will use information obtained during the symposium to enhance patient care by translating this information into clinical practice, teaching of residents/physicians, and in making more appropriate drug selection decisions for formularies and clinical treatment algorithms.
