Med-Psych Issues for the Psychiatric Pharmacist
Andrew Muzyk, PharmDThe purpose of our Medicine-Psychiatry roundtable is to allow interested clinicians to exchange thoughts and experiences from our respective Med-Psych services. We also want to encourage networking and develop collaborations to share clinical practice and research ideas. Lastly, we will discuss ways pharmacy students/residents can train to be a Med-Psych pharmacist as well as ways for current pharmacists to be more involved in caring for this patient population.

Pursuing a Career in Academia

The first half of this roundtable discussion will focus on developing qualities necessary to become successful as a new or junior faculty member. Discussion will involve balancing time between scholarship, teaching, and service in an effort to successfully move up the promotion and/or tenure track. As time allows, other topics may include preparing for annual and midpoint evaluations as well as how to begin a scholarly program. The second half of this roundtable is recommended for junior or senior faculty with an interest in pursuing an academic administrative position either soon or in the future. Discussion topics will include how to prepare for an administrative position early in your career, professional organizational involvement, and qualities necessary to become a successful academic administrator. The facilitators will be prepared to modify discussion to best meet the needs of the roundtable audience.

Starting Medication Therapy Management Services for Outpatients

The goal of this workshop is to provide an overview of MTMS in the ambulatory care and outpatient psychiatry settings from clinical and business perspectives. Topics include: Describe the practice/practitioners; Identify stakeholders including high risk patients with unmet pharmaceutical care needs; Selection of MTMS data management systems; Discuss lessons learned in the area of overhead costs, marketing, credentialing and reimbursements. The workshop will be a forum for interested clinicians to exchange thoughts, experiences, and to encourage networking and future collaborations in practice and research. State Hospital Pharmacists

The State Hospital Round Table will discuss issues that State Hospitals have in common. These topics include budget both drug and personnel, Joint Commission, staffing, drug distribution, etc. Through these discussion it is hoped that we can assist each other in developing strategies to resolved our common problems.

Strategies for Successful Medical Record Review, Drug Utilization Research, and QA/QI Research-Related Projects
Christian Teter, PharmD, BCPPThis roundtable will provide the attendee with useful advice that will assists them in conceptualizing, planning, and implementing retrospective medical record review and drug utilization research. It will also provide information necessary to determine if Quality Assurance/Improvement projects are appropriate for research-related activities and how to address challenges that arise when translating clinical projects to research studies. There will be a discussion on the methodological and regulatory considerations with respect to medical record review, drug utilization research and QA/QI research-related projects.

What’s New in Legislative Activities
Dan Justino, PharmD, BCPP; Raymond Love, PharmD, BCPPA discussion on the status of providing MTM services by psychiatric pharmacists in the current healthcare environment, along with some possible opportunities to define MTM services, as they may pertain to the psychiatric pharmacist and the CPNP membership. Develop the top five MTM issues for CPNP to focus on in the future.
Those planning on attending should bring their top five MTM issues, concerning MTM services that we are currently or could be providing. These issues should be those best addressed at a national organizational level, to help prioritize CPNP’s focus, on what MTM issues are important to our membership and to help develop a plan to address these issues . Please come prepared to discuss our future.
Scientific Poster Session*

Research and networking with colleagues takes center stage on Monday when 130+ research and practice posters will be displayed. Take advantage of the 3 total hours of uninterrupted viewing time with poster authors to further explore presented research, innovative practices and case management. The Outgoing President’s Reception honoring Steve Stoner, PharmD, BCPP, is held in conjunction with the final 1.5 hour poster viewing session offering the double benefit of networking with colleagues and poster authors simultaneously. Award finalists will provide platform presentations during Monday afternoon’s concurrent track with winners announced Tuesday morning.
CPNP Walks for NAMI*
Wednesday, May 4
6:45-7:45 a.m.
Join CPNP in the fourth annual 5K run/walk bright and early on Wednesday morning. Your entrance fee is donated directly to NAMI and matched by CPNP. Run, walk or bypass the walk and sleep in, but donate any amount to this wonderful event benefiting NAMI. A t-shirt is provided to the first 150 participants and donors.
