BCPP Examination Review and Recertification Course

Audience

The Review Course was administered by ASHP through 2007. Deciding to discontinue their role as a BCPP programming provider, ASHP provided the curriculum to CPNP. CPNP has expanded the Review Course to twenty hours of programming and evaluated and revised all learning objectives and materials.

This programming serves a dual purpose:

  1. It is designed as a prepatory course for individuals preparing to sit for the BCPP examination
  2. It offers a review of standards of care for BCPP certified individuals seeking BCPP recertification credit.

Content

Whether a certification candidate or a currently certified individual, the goal of the Review Course is to assist the practitioner in developing and maintaining contemporary knowledge and skills at the psychiatric pharmacy specialty level. The Review Course is not designed to develop more in-depth "subspecialty" knowledge. Course content is structured to provide a comprehensive review of the three psychiatric pharmacy domains specified by the Specialty Council in the current edition of the BPS Candidate's Guide. Inclusion of the Review Course as part of the recertification program is critical in ensuring the BCPP has systematically reviewed and assessed his/her core knowledge in the psychiatric specialty practice.

Special Notes:

  1. BCPPs recertifying via continuing education are encouraged but not required to complete the Review Course a minimum of once during their 7-year recertification cycle.
  2. BCPPs recertifying via continuing education can use the Review Course a maximum of once during their 7-year recertification cycle.
  3. The Review Course is available annually but undergoes a comprehensive update every 2 years. For that reason, the Review Course cannot be taken in consecutive years for any purchaser seeking Recertification and/or ACPE credit.

Requirements

To satisfactorily complete the Recertification programming and receive 20.0 contact hours of Recertification and ACPE credit, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Abide by a confidentiality and honesty statement requiring individual completion of the Review Course.
  • Complete an online assessment by the deadline of November 12, 2008.
  • Meet the minimum passing score for the examinations as determined by a panel of experts. Partial credit is not provided; your exam score must meet or exceed the cut-off score in order to receive the 20.0 contact hours of credit.

The Full Review and Recertification Course Includes:

  • Comprehensive outlines of the courses listed below. The outlines consist of objectives, thorough subject related content, comprehensive reference listing and self-assessment questions and answers.
  • A CD-ROM of the speakers’ presentation of content consisting of PowerPoint presentations synced with the audio presentations.
  • For pharmacists, 20.0 contact hours of ACPE credit and 20.0 hours of recertification credit achieved by successfully completing the online CPNP recertification examination.
