2010 Research Award Finalists Announced

The College of Psychiatric and Neurologic Pharmacists (CPNP) is pleased to announce the following individuals as award finalists for 2010 Research Awards to be determined at the 2010 CPNP Annual Meeting to be held April 18-21, 2010 in San Antonio, Texas.

CPNP Supports ENHANCED Act S. 1857

CPNP is one of many national associations to sign on in support of ENHANCED Act S. 1857 seeking to establish a network of centers of excellence for depression. This bill would establish a national network of centers of excellence for the treatment of depressive disorders. The goal of the bill is to increase the number of people with depressive disorders who receive appropriate and evidence-based treatment, and to establish a national resource to develop and disseminate evidence-based interventions, provide public and professional education, and eradicate the stigma associated with depressive disorders.

CPNP Announces Election of 2010-2012 Officers

The College of Psychiatric and Neurologic Pharmacists (CPNP) membership has elected three new officers to serve on the 2010-2012 Board of Directors. Assuming their offices effective July 1, 2010 will be Dr. Jerry McKee, Dr. Carol Ott and Dr. Rex Lott.

House Health Care Reform Bill Would Expand Patient Access to Medication Therapy Management Services

The pharmacy profession, as represented by the organizations listed below, welcomes the inclusion of medication therapy management (MTM) services in The Affordable Health Care for America Act (H.R. 3962), sponsored by Congressman John Dingell (D-MI), that would enhance medication use in our health care system.

Specifically, the bill would establish a program to provide grants to eligible entities to implement MTM services provided by licensed pharmacists, as a part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary, interprofessional approach to the treatment of chronic diseases – such as heart disease, cancer and diabetes – for targeted individuals.

CPNP 2009 Member Get a Member Campaign

During the 2009 Member get a Member Campaign, 135 members joined CPNP.  Of that 135, 85 were a direct result of referrals by 41 CPNP members. A list of these recruiters is available online.

CPNP Member Norton Receives GSAS Award

Athens, GA – Merrill Norton, clinical associate professor at the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy, is the 2009 recipient of the Georgia School of Addiction Studies (GSAS) Excellence in Addiction Treatment Individual Achievement Award “for his unselfish dedication to the treatment of addicted families, not only in the state of Georgia, but nationally.”

CPNP Participates in 2009 NAMI Annual Convention

For the fifth consecutive year, CPNP has participated extensively in the 2009 National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Annual Convention held in San Francisco, California, July 6-9, 2009. The 2009 NAMI Annual Convention hosted 2200 consumers, caregivers and healthcare professionals.

CPNP Involved in Health Care Reform

The College of Psychiatric and Neurologic Pharmacists (CPNP) has been a member of the Leadership for Medication Management (LMM) since its founding in working to expand opportunities for pharmacists to provide patient care services under the Medicare program.

CPNP Member Sheila Botts, PharmD, BCPP Receives NCDEU New Investigator Award

CPNP member and Past President Sheila Botts, PharmD, BCPP, has been selected as one of 17 new investigator award recipients at the 2009 New Clinical Drug Evaluation Unit (NCDEU) meeting to be held June 29-July 2 in Hollywood Florida. The NCDEU meeting, sponsored by the National Institute of Mental Health and American Society of Clinical Psychopharmacology, offers a special program for new investigators in an effort to promote the education and training of junior investigators in psychopharmacology. Established investigators were asked to nominate individuals who may be interested in a research career in psychopharmacology for this special program.
