CPNP Announces Saklad Memorial Lecture Award and Research Award Recipients at the 2009 CPNP Annual Meeting

Saklad Memorial Lecture Award

CPNP was honored to present the Saklad Memorial Lecture Award at the April 2009 CPNP Annual Meeting for the twelfth time. The Saklad Memorial Lecture Award celebrates the life and work of the late Judith J. Saklad. Dr. Saklad was a founding member of CPNP and nationally recognized as an innovator of pharmaceutical care to children and adults with serious mental disorders, developmental disabilities and mental retardation.

Dr. Stanley S. Weber was selected by his peers as a senior psychiatric pharmacy practitioner who has achieved a level of professional distinction and like Dr. Saklad, demonstrates the qualities and ideals of professional enthusiasm and a passion for optimizing patient care.

Stanley S. Weber, PharmD, FASHP, BCPP, is currently the Associate Dean for Professional Education and an Associated Professor of Pharmacy at the University of Washington in Seattle. Dr. Weber was recognized for starting psychiatric pharmacy programs in Rhode Island and Washington State, and the training he has provided to residents and fellows in psychiatric practice.

During his acceptance, Dr. Weber discussed his current efforts to minimize the commoditization of pharmacy education while extending the ability to provide relevant pharmacy services, to inculcate into students an attitude of practice change, and to find methods to make pharmacy a “high touch” health care discipline.
