CPNP 2009 Annual Meeting

Jacksonville, Florida delivered sunny and warm days for the College of Psychiatric and Neurologic Pharmacist’s 12th Annual Meeting held April 19-22. This four-day conference hosted 384 attendees and featured over 15 hours of cutting-edge scientific presentations, 7.5 hours of industry supported symposia and a record number 128 scientific poster presentations.

Kicking off the meeting was a keynote address delivered by nationally recognized author Elyn Saks of the University of Southern California Law School, presenting “The Center Cannot Hold: My Journey Through Madness.” Closing the stellar line-up of content and speakers was a final keynote by CPNP Past-President Larry Ereshefsky of California Clinical Trials offering an update on Dosage Formulation Technologies for Antipsychotics. Kelly Lee, PharmD, BCPP Assistant Professor at University of California San Diego, Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, served as chair of the CPNP Annual Meeting Rex Lott, PharmD, BCPP, Idaho State University College of Pharmacy, served as chair of the Recertification continuing education.

CPNP presented the 12th Saklad Memorial Lecture Award to Stan Weber, PharmD, FASHP, BCPP, Associate Dean for Professional Education and an Associate Professor of Pharmacy at the University of Washington in Seattle. CPNP was also successful in raising $5000 for the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) through the second annual CPNP Walks for NAMI event, a 4 mile fun run/walk on the final day of the meeting. Attendee donations were matched dollar for dollar by CPNP.

CPNP’s 13th Annual Meeting will be held April 18-21, 2010 at the new Grand Hyatt in San Antonio, Texas.

Officer and Committee Chair Installation
Installation of 2009-2010 officers was also conducted at the Annual Meeting. Carla Cobb, PharmD, BCPP passed the gavel to Ann Richards, PharmD, BCPP, Pharmacy Director, Texas Department of State Health Services. Dr. Richards will assume her duties as President beginning in July of 2009. Also recognized as new President Elect was Steven Stoner, PharmD, BCPP whose term will also begin in July of 2009. Remaining on the board for 2009-2010 are Vicki Ellingrod, PharmD, BCPP, FCCP, Board Secretary, Associate Professor, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan and Jerry McKee, PharmD, MS, BCPP, Director of Pharmacy, Broughton Hospital, Morganton, North Carolina

Joining the Board of Directors in July of 2009 are:
