CPNP Announces 2010 Annual Meeting Keynote Speaker

The College of Psychiatric and Neurologic Pharmacists (CPNP) is pleased to announce that Terry Wise, JD, will lead off the 2010 CPNP Annual Meeting with a keynote address on Monday, April 19 in San Antonio, Texas.

Terry L. Wise, JD is a highly-acclaimed author and international public speaker. Widowed at 35 following her spouse's death from Lou Gehrig's Disease (ALS), and after surviving a near-fatal suicide attempt, Terry spent the next several years in treatment and then wrote about her recovery. Her widely-adopted book, Waking Up: Climbing Through the Darkness (foreword by Rabbi Harold S. Kushner, best-selling author of When Bad Things Happen to Good People), is required reading at clinical psychology programs nationwide. It is also in use at crisis centers and in the training materials for the Core Competency Curriculum developed by the American Association of Suicidology and Suicide Prevention Resource Center (SPRC).

Terry serves on the boards of numerous organizations, including the American Association of Suicidology, the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (1-800-273-TALK). She is the recipient of a National Mental Health Award for “distinguished achievement and work that has had a major impact on the depression community.” She makes frequent media appearances and is a featured spokesperson on a nationally broadcast Radio Podcast, as well as a Public Service Announcement (PSA) and educational video guide (sponsored by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Association - SAMHSA). With remarkable distinction, she integrates pivotal, first-hand insights from a former patient’s side of the couch into an extensive look at empirically-based research and relevant literature. Audiences leave with a wealth of concrete tools and a gripping story of hope and personal triumph.
