CPNP 2010 Annual Meeting Recap

San Antonio, Texas served as host city for the College of Psychiatric and Neurologic Pharmacist’s 13th Annual Meeting held April 18-21 This four-day conference hosted 450 attendees and featured over 20 hours of cutting-edge scientific presentations, 4.5 hours of industry supported symposia and a record number 142 scientific poster presentations.

Kicking off the meeting was a moving keynote address delivered by nationally recognized author Terry Wise, presenting Inside the Suicidal Mind:  Life-Saving Insights and Critical Therapeutic Strategies. The meeting accelerated its momentum with a mid-conference keynote debate between Drs. Peter Buckley and Henry Nasrallah on the topic of Efficacy vs. Tolerability: Which Trumps? Closing the stellar line-up of content was a final keynote by CPNP Past-President Larry Ereshefsky of California Clinical Trials offering an update on Strategies to Develop Disease Modifying Drugs:  Focus on Alzheimer’s and Surrogate Endpoints. Joshana Goga, PharmD, BCPP, Clinical Pharmacist, Sheppard Pratt Health System, Townson, MD, served as chair of the CPNP Annual Meeting Rex Lott, PharmD, BCPP, Idaho State University College of Pharmacy, served as chair of the Recertification continuing education.

CPNP presented the 13th Saklad Memorial Lecture Award to Raymond C. Love, PharmD, BCPP, FASHP, Professor and Associate Dean, University of Maryland, Baltimore, Maryland. CPNP was also successful in raising $4960 for the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) through the third annual CPNP Walks for NAMI event, a 5K run/walk on the final day of the meeting. Attendee donations were matched dollar for dollar by CPNP.

CPNP’s 14th Annual Meeting will be held May 1-4 at The Arizona Grand Resort in Phoenix.

OFFICER AND COMMITTEE CHAIR INSTALLATION

Installation of 2010-2011 officers was also conducted at the Annual Meeting. Ann Richards, PharmD, BCPP passed the gavel to, Steven Stoner, PharmD, BCPP, Clinical Professor and Chair, University of Missouri at Kansas City School of Pharmacy, Kansas City, Missouri. Dr. Stoner will assume his duties as President beginning in July of 2010. Also recognized as new President Elect was Jerry McKee, PharmD, BCPP, whose term will also begin in July of 2010. Remaining on the board for 2010-2011 are Member-At-Large, Jerry Overman, PharmD, BCPP, Clinical Pharmacy Specialist, National Institutes of Health (NIH), Bethesda, Maryland and Treasurer, Mary Borovicka, PharmD, BCPP, BCPS, Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice, University of Toledo, Brecksville, Ohio.

The College of Psychiatric and Neurologic Pharmacist’s (CPNP) mission is to promote excellence in pharmacy practice, education and research to optimize the treatment outcomes of individuals affected by psychiatric and neurologic disorders by:

  • Facilitating the dissemination of information regarding psychiatric and neurologic pharmacotherapy, patient care and community support
  • Facilitating programs in the areas of psychiatric and neurologic pharmacy at national meetings with organizations which support similar interests
