CPNP Announces Partnership with Quadrant HealthCom, Publisher of Current Psychiatry Launches Bimonthly Savvy Psychopharmacology Department
The College of Psychiatric and Neurologic Pharmacists (CPNP) is pleased to announce an educational partnership with Quadrant HealthCom Inc., a leading medical communications company that produces 14 publications with reach to more than 662,000 healthcare professionals. Three of these publications focus on neuroscience:
- Annals of Clinical Psychiatry
- Current Psychiatry
- Neurology Reviews
One of the first initiatives from this partnership is the Savvy Psychopharmacology column written bi-monthly by CPNP members for publication in Current Psychiatry, which has a print circulation of more than 39,000. Subscribers are psychiatrists, residents, and other mental health professionals. The first Savvy Psychopharmacology article —on how differences among generic medications might affect patient response—appears in the May issue of Current Psychiatry. Complimentary online access to Current Psychiatry is available at www.currentpsychiatry.com.
Vicki Ellingrod, PharmD, BCPP, FCCP, is the series editor for Savvy Psychopharmacology, which is designed to present an evidence-based discussion to guide safe, effective prescribing of psychotropic medications. Dr. Ellingrod, associate professor at the University of Michigan, says “This section is intended to keep readers current with new developments in psychopharmacology and to showcase the benefits of collaboration between psychiatric pharmacists and prescribers in solving and preventing problems patients may have with their medications.” Based on Current Psychiatry reader input, upcoming installments of Savvy Psychopharmacology may cover using CYP2D6 testing to identify poor metabolizers, treating depression in patients with significant cardiovascular disease, preventing drug-drug interactions that might increase the risk for serotonin syndrome, pharmacodynamic medication effects in the elderly, and “pharmacologic debridement” in dementia.
Quadrant Group Publisher Ken Sylvia notes “Current Psychiatry and the entire Quadrant family is excited to develop this relationship with CPNP. The Savvy Psychopharmacology department provides readers with evidence-based, peer-reviewed, relevant information that can be put into practice immediately. We look forward to creating many more initiatives with CPNP.”
The Quadrant and CPNP relationship will develop and grow with an emphasis on expanding the visibility of neuropsychiatric pharmacists and providing education of benefit to CPNP members and other healthcare professionals.
