2012-2013 APNA Endorsed CPNP Psychiatric Pharmacotherapy Review Course

In cooperation with the American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA), the College of Psychiatric and Neurologic Pharmacists (CPNP) is pleased to offer the APNA endorsed CPNP Psychiatric Pharmacotherapy Review Course at CPNP member rates. This course is structured to provide knowledge- based education as defined in Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) guidelines. The course examinations must be submitted by December 31, 2013.

APNA members can access this Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) approved distance education course at CPNP member prices. Both a for-credit and no-credit (resource only) purchase option is being provided at a cost of $320 and $150 respectively. Non members of APNA can purchase the product for $480 (for-credit) and $150 (no-credit). The 20.0 contact hours of ACPE credit are accepted for American Nurses Credentialing Center Certification Renewal. You can preview a segment of a curriculum module and speaker presentation. Accreditation (for-credit version only)

The College of Psychiatric and Neurologic Pharmacists is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. The 2012-2013 APNA Endorsed Psychiatric Pharmacotherapy Review Course is a knowledge-based course and will provide up to 20 contact hours (2.0 CEUs) of continuing education credit.

Statements of Credit (for-credit version only)

Registrants can obtain up to 20.0 contact hours of ACPE credit by successfully completing the CPNP Psychiatric Pharmacotherapy Review Course online examinations for each of the 14 topic areas included in the course. The course expires December 31, 2013.

ACPE Statements of Credit will be available online at cpnp.org upon successful completion of each examination for the 14 topic areas contained in the course. Successful completion is defined as achieving a score of 60% or higher on each examination. Notification of statement availability will be provided upon successful completion of the examination.

College of Psychiatric and Neurologic Pharmacists Announces Election of 2012-2014 Officers

The College of Psychiatric and Neurologic Pharmacists (CPNP) membership has elected three officers to serve on the 2012-2014 Board of Directors. Assuming their offices effective July 1, 2012, will be Drs. Julie Dopheide, Ellie Elliott and Troy Moore.

The practice of neurology, 2000-2010: Report of the AAN Member Research Subcommittee

Objective:

To present an analysis of American Academy of Neurology (AAN) membership demographics and practice trends over the past decade.

Methods:

Data from the 2009 AAN Census and 2010 Practice Profile Form (PPF) surveys were compared to results from 2004 and 2000 surveys. The Census was sent to all AAN members, and the PPF was sent to a random sample of US practicing neurologists.

Mental Illness in the Criminal Justice System: Constructing a Comprehensive and Competent Criminal Justice/Mental Health Treatment System

The deinstitutionalization of psychiatric facilities has been a major factor that has led to the current crisis of the criminalization of the mentally ill.  Judge Steven Leifman, a Miami-Dade County Judge who has also served as Special Advisor on Criminal Justice and Mental Health for the Supreme Court of Florida, is responsible for chairing the Court’s Mental Health Subcommittee.  He and his group authored a ground-breaking report entitled, Transforming Florida’s Mental Health System.

During his presentation, Judge Leifman will discuss new and effective strategies that are being developed and employed to transform the mental health system.  He will address ways that providers can assist those with mental health disorders to maneuver the criminal justice system to minimize burden.  Additionally, he will discuss how pharmacists and other health care professionals can get involved in a legislative manner to help transform the mental health system.
