Intranasal Oxytocin Effects on Social Anxiety and Depression in Schizophrenia: Results from a Double Blind Placebo Controlled Trial
Oxytocin has been associated with improving aspects of social cognition, including social bonding/positive interaction, trust, empathy, and emotional perception/memory. OT has also been associated with stress reduction, and may modulate anxiety and reduce fear. These effects may be helpful to persons with schizophrenia, an illness commonly resulting in deficits in social interaction and increased anxiety symptoms.
