The College of Psychiatric and Neurologic Pharmacists (CPNP) Announces Saklad Memorial Award and Research Award Recipients Presented at the 2012 CPNP Annual Meeting

Saklad Memorial Award

CPNP was honored to present the Saklad Memorial Award at the 2012 CPNP Annual Meeting for the fifteenth time. This award celebrates the life and work of the late Judith J. Saklad. Dr. Saklad was a founding member of CPNP and nationally recognized as an innovator of pharmaceutical care to children and adults with serious mental disorders, developmental disabilities and mental retardation. The 2012 recipient is Dr. Stephen R. Saklad.

College of Psychiatric and Neurologic Pharmacists (CPNP) 2012 Annual Meeting

Tampa, Florida served as host city for the College of Psychiatric and Neurologic Pharmacist’s 15th Annual Meeting held April 29-May 2. This four-day conference hosted a record number 507 attendees and featured over 20 hours of cutting-edge scientific presentations, an industry supported symposium, two product theaters and a display of 143 scientific posters. Tawny Smith, PharmD, BCPP, Clinical Pharmacy Specialist-Psychiatry, Seton Healthcare Family, Austin, Texas, served as Program Chair of the CPNP Annual Meeting. Sarah Melton, PharmD, BCPP, CGP, FASCP, BCACP, Clinical Pharmacist, C-Health, PC and Highpower, PC, Lebanon, VA, served as chair of Recertification continuing education. CPNP’s 16th Annual Meeting will be held April 21-24, 2013 at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

College of Psychiatric and Neurologic Pharmacists Position Statement: Psychiatric Pharmacist Integration into Medical Home Model

The College of Psychiatric and Neurologic Pharmacists (CPNP) Board of Directors has approved a position statement on integrating pharmacists with psychiatric and neurologic training into primary care settings. The goal of this position statement is to encourage the medical and pharmacy community to work together to improve access to care, improve healthcare-related outcomes, and decrease overall healthcare costs for patients with mental illness and medical comorbidities by taking purposeful action to move towards integrated care.
