Ann L. Richards was the Pharmacy Director at the San Antonio State Hospital and served as the Pharmacy Service Director for the Hospital Section of the Texas Department of State Health Services. In addition, she was a clinical assistant professor with the College of Pharmacy at The University of Texas and The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.

During her tenure she was involved in implementing IV Admixture Services, Unit Dose Drug Distribution, Robotic Drug Distribution, computerized prescriber order entry and bar-coded medication administration at the San Antonio State Hospital. Agency-wide she was involved in implementing pharmacy distribution software and a new drug purchasing system that includes use of a group purchasing organization and a wholesaler.

As a founding member of AAPP, she served on the Board of Directors as a Member-At-Large. She was the 2008 Judith Saklad Award winner and served on numerous committees. Over her career, she was involved with many professional activities. She was a member of the Specialty Council for Psychiatric Pharmacy for the Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties and served as both Chair and Vice Chair for the Council. For ASHP, she served on both the Interim and Executive Committee for the Clinical Section, as well as the Advisory Group of the ASHP Section of Clinical Specialists. She also served as Chair and Vice Chair for the ASHP Psychopharmacy Special Practice Group.
