Colorado Springs, Colorado served as host city for the College of Psychiatric and Neurologic Pharmacist’s 19th Annual Meeting held April 17-20. A record-breaking 700 healthcare professionals registered to attend this four-day conference which featured nearly 30 hours of cutting-edge scientific presentations, two product theaters and a display of 216 scientific posters. Lisa Goldstone, PharmD, MS, BCPS, BCPP, Assistant Professor, University of Arizona College of Pharmacy, Tucson, AZ, served as Program Chair of the CPNP Annual Meeting. Sarah Melton, PharmD, BCPP, BCACP, Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice, Gatton College of Pharmacy, East Tennessee State University, Johnson City, TN, served as chair of Recertification continuing education. CPNP’s 20th Annual Meeting will be held April 23-26, 2017 at the Phoenix Convention Center in Phoenix, Arizona.

Kicking off the meeting was a four-hour hands on pre-meeting workshop on The How-Tos of Developing Collaborations to Improve Care, Access, and Reimbursement delivered by Drs. Steven Chen and Carla Cobb. Monday’s keynote address was delivered by Dr. Claire Fraser on The Role of Microbiota in Health and Disease: The Emerging Gut-Brain Connection. The final keynote address of the meeting on Vitamin Supplementation in Schizophrenia, delivered by Dr. Joshua Hoffman, rounded out the meeting along with additional concurrent programming provided throughout the meeting on topics such as chronic pain and sleep impairment, self-management and patient care, pharmacogenomics, Parkinson’s Disease, and much more. This year’s Annual Meeting also offered specific programming for over 100 residents and 100 students.

The CPNP Foundation hosted the traditional NAMI Walk during the Annual Meeting raising over $3800 for the National Alliance on Mental Illness. Additionally, the Foundation presented the Career Achievement Award to Glen Stimmel, PharmD, Interim Dean, John Stauffer Decanal Chair, and Professor of Clinical Pharmacy, Psychiatry and the Behavioral Sciences at the University of Southern California School of Pharmacy and Keck School of Medicine.

In addition to providing high quality education, the following CPNP business and recognition was conducted at the CPNP Annual Meeting.

Officer transitions were announced with CPNP President Raymond Love, PharmD, BCPP, FASHP, Professor, University of Maryland, Baltimore, MD, passing the gavel to President-Elect Christopher Thomas, PharmD, BCPP, Clinical Pharmacist in Psychiatry, Chillicothe Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Chillicothe, OH. Also recognized as new President-Elect was Deanna Kelly, PharmD, BCPP, Professor, University of Maryland, Baltimore, MD. All will assume their duties beginning in July of 2016.
