  • PGY2 Other Features: In our clinically focused program our PGY2 residents spend the majority of their time in direct patient care activities such as our Pharmacist Run Medication Management Clinics in Clozapine, Cognitive Disorders, Mood Disorders, Geriatric Psychiatry, PTSD, Bipolar Disorder and others. Additional clinical exposures include active participation with our multi-disciplinary Inpatient Unit, Substance Abuse Residential Rehabilitation Program (SAARTP), Mental Health Intensive Case Management (MHICM) and our Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (RRTP - Aspire Center). Residents will have multiple teaching opportunities which include Therapeutics course case conference facilitation and precepting of 4th year APPE and PGY1 Pharmacy trainees in psychiatry. A Teaching Certificate Program is offered via the San Diego Residency Leadership Group. Residents are also expected to facilitate their own research project(s).

Program Philosophy

To develop a Clinical Specialist in Psychiatric Pharmacy capable of serving as an independent practitioner, medication consultant, and formulary manager as part of an interdisciplinary healthcare team. They will also be able to provide education on mental health disorders and psychotropic medications to their pharmacist colleagues and trainees, other healthcare providers and patients. With the specialized knowledge and skills gained during the program, graduates should be able to successfully achieve Board Certification in Psychiatric Pharmacy Practice, obtain employment as a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Psychiatry, and ultimately provide a high level of direct patient care.
