  • PGY2 Other Features: All learning experiences occur in the adult inpatient setting unless otherwise noted. Required experiences include outpatient psychiatry, mood disorders I, severe mental illness I and II, longitudinal staffing, and longitudinal teaching. Elective experiences include child and adolescent psychiatry, geriatric psychiatry, chemical dependency, consultant liaison psychiatry, emergency psychiatry, and forensics. An optional teaching certificate program and leadership curriculum are also offered. Other required activities include a longitudinal research project, delivery of didactic lectures for Cleveland Clinic Health System (CCHS) Adult Psychiatry residents and medical students, drug use evaluation(s), participation in several CCHS committees, APPE student and PGY1 resident precepting, and staff in-services. Residents will present posters at the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting and the College of Psychiatric and Neurologic Pharmacists (CPNP) Annual Meeting. A platform presentation on residency project methodology at the Ohio College of Clinical Pharmacy (OCCP) Fall Meeting is also required.

Site Special Features

Lutheran Hospital encompasses the primary adult inpatient psychiatric units of the Cleveland Clinic Department of Psychiatry. Lutheran supports medical residencies in adult psychiatry and orthopedic surgery. The adult psychiatric inpatient units consist of two severe mental illness units, two mood disorders units, one geriatric unit, and one alcohol and drug rehabilitation unit. Lutheran Hospital was awarded the 2016 Bernard A. Birnbaum, MD, Quality Leadership Award as the top community hospital affiliated with an academic medical center.
