  • PGY2 Other Features: The PGY2 psychiatric pharmacy resident will precept Pharm.D. students from various pharmacy colleges, including the University of Pittsburgh and Duquesne University. Additionally, the resident will precept pharmacy interns, through all years of pharmacy graduate school, within the department on the monthly required journal club. The PGY2 resident will serve as a mentor to the WPH PGY1 pharmacy residents and will also teach psychopharmacology didactics to PGY1 psychiatry medicine residents. The resident will also have the opportunity to participate in the Mastery of Teaching certificate through the University of Pittsburgh.

PGY1 Special Features

The PGY1 resident will have opportunities to precept Pharm.D. students from various pharmacy colleges, including the University of Pittsburgh and Duquesne University. The resident will also have the opportunity to obtain a Mastery of Teaching certificate through the University of Pittsburgh. Additionally, WPH offers two PGY1 positions. While they are considered a general residency, there is an emphasis in providing the maximum number of psychiatric rotations per ASHP accreditation requirements.

Site Special Features

This residency is located at a 300-bed acute care psychiatric academic medical center as part of UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside. Experiences will be block and longitudinal, as well as inpatient and outpatient. Other required and elective opportunities for the PGY1 and PGY2 residency programs could take place at the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System and other UPMC hospitals, dependent upon interest and availability.
