Candidates who became board certified in the Spring 2014 exam administration window cannot begin accumulating CE hours until December 31, 2014. Registration for the 2015 Psychiatric Pharmacotherapy Review Course BCPP Recertification Credit Edition will open in Fall 2014. A non-credit or ACPE version are currently available.

Target Audience

The Psychiatric Pharmacotherapy Review Course (Review Course) is designed for three primary audiences:

  1. It serves as a preparatory course for pharmacists preparing to sit for the BCPP examination.
  2. It offers a review of current evidence-based pharmacotherapy for psychiatric and neurologic conditions for BCPP certified pharmacists seeking BCPP recertification credit.
  3. It serves as an educational tool for other health care providers on current evidence-based pharmacotherapy for psychiatric and neurologic conditions.

NOTE: The Psychiatric Pharmacotherapy Review Course is a two-year product released at the start of even years (2014, 2016, 2018...). Given this revision cycle, individuals cannot repeat the current edition of the Review Course for BCPP Recertification or ACPE credit.

Content

Whether a certification candidate or a currently certified individual, the goal of the Review Course is to assist the practitioner in developing and maintaining contemporary knowledge and skills at the psychiatric pharmacy specialty level. The Review Course is not designed to develop more in-depth "subspecialty" knowledge. Course content is structured to provide a comprehensive review of the three psychiatric pharmacy domains specified by the Specialty Council in the current edition of the BPS Candidate's Guide. Inclusion of the Review Course as part of the recertification program is critical in ensuring the BCPP has systematically reviewed and assessed his/her core knowledge in the psychiatric specialty practice. This course is a knowledge-based educational program designed for pharmacists to acquire factual knowledge.

  • BCPPs recertifying via continuing education are required to complete the Review Course a minimum of once during their 7-year recertification cycle.
  • BCPPs recertifying via continuing education can use the Review Course a maximum of twice for recertification credit during their 7-year recertification cycle.
  • The Review Course is revised and released every other year on the even year (2014, 2016, 2018, ...). Given this revision cycle, individuals cannot repeat the current edition of the Review Course for BCPP Recertification or ACPE credit.

The course includes:

  • Comprehensive outlines of the topics noted in the curriculum section below. The outlines consist of objectives, thorough subject related content, comprehensive reference listings by topic and self-assessment questions and answers.
  • Online access to speaker presentations of content consisting of PowerPoint presentations synced with the audio presentations. Presentations offer application and clinical pearls through case studies and other active learning.
  • For pharmacists, 20.0 contact hours of ACPE credit and 20.0 hours of recertification credit achieved by successfully completing the online CPNP recertification examination.

Course Requirements

To satisfactorily complete the Recertification programming and receive 20.0 contact hours of Recertification and ACPE credit, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Abide by a confidentiality and honesty statement requiring individual completion of the Review Course.
  • Complete an online assessment by the deadline of July 23, 2014.
  • Meet the minimum passing score of 76% for the examinations as determined by a panel of experts.
  • Partial credit is not provided; your exam score must meet or exceed the cut-off score in order to receive the 20.0 contact hours of credit.

You will proceed through the following steps to satisfactorily complete this course:

  • Complete the pre-test before starting the activity. (login first)
  • Review the full content of the activity and reflect upon its teachings.
  • Complete the post-test at the end of the activity no later than the closing activity date. (login first)
  • Complete the evaluation at the end of the activity. (login first)
  • Wait for the official review of exam questions within 4 weeks following the closing date.
  • Receive a passing grade (76%).
  • Provide the necessary details in your profile to ensure correct reporting by CPNP to CPE Monitor. (login first)

Recertification test results will be reviewed and communicated by August 25, 2014. After that time, you will be provided access to the testing center to review your results and to learn whether you earned BCPP recertification credit.

However, anyone who receives at least a 70% on the exam will have ACPE credit (not BCPP recertification credit) automatically reported to CPE Monitor within 48 hours of completion of the examination.
