Target Audience

This course is designed for pharmacists, nurse practitioners or other healthcare professionals involved in the comprehensive medication management of psychiatric and/or neurological patients.

Session Summary

Many providers are not well-versed with regard to available options for neurostimulation in the psychiatric or neurologic patient, though these therapies are critical, especially among treatment-resistant patients. In order to best treat complicated cases of depression, health care providers should understand the role of various neuromodulation techniques, including electroconvulsive therapy and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). MS, as well as other neuromodulation approaches, have gained popularity in recent years. Therefore, in this session, the speaker will provide an overview of neuromodulation with a focus on TMS and how it may be incorporated into patient care, with an emphasis on need-to-know information for the practicing psychiatric or neurologic pharmacy specialist.
