If you are a pharmacist, nurse practitioner, or other health care professional involved in the comprehensive medication management of individuals living with mental health and/or substance use disorders, we invite you to participate in this online course.
ADHD medication use among women of reproductive age has increased dramatically in recent years. Understanding both the risks of untreated symptoms and the risks of medications can inform treatment decisions that reduce risks. In this session, we’ll review gender influences on the presentation of ADHD, ADHD risks relevant to pregnancy, and a systematic approach to risk assessment. Through illustrative composite cases, we’ll compare risks of untreated symptoms to risks of medications for ADHD and some of its common comorbidities. We’ll discuss the role of nonpharmacologic interventions for ADHD. We’ll examine how risk/benefit analyses can change with the transition to motherhood, including considerations for women who are breastfeeding.
