Target Audience

This course is designed for pharmacists, nurse practitioners or other healthcare professionals involved in the comprehensive medication management of psychiatric and/or neurological patients.

Session Summary

Innovative Mobile health (mHealth) approaches are revolutionizing the way we study, assess, and treat mental illness. mHealth may aid in closing access gaps to services, reducing hospitalizations, improving consistency and accuracy of care, and reducing healthcare expenditures. However, the lack of regulations into whom may develop an mHealth app and paucity of clinical evidence means some caution should be exercised. Clinicians need guidance on the proposed advantages and disadvantages of these new technologies and how mHealth integration can be effectively incorporated into practice.

You will proceed through the following steps to satisfactorily complete this course:

This course is provided online at cpnp.org and consists of the speaker audio and slides. A PDF file of the slides is also provided and access is available to participants indefinitely although ACPE credit is available only through the course expiration date.

Participants in this course must complete an examination and achieve a score of 70% or greater. Successful completion of the course also requires the completion of a course evaluation. ACPE statements of credit can be retrieved by participants online at cpnp.org immediately upon successful completion of the course.

  2. Describe different mHealth approaches and outline intervention design and development considerations.
  3. Review current evidence supporting the use of mHealth applications in the treatment of serious mental illness.
  4. Discuss the potential pros and cons of integrating mHealth applications into clinical practice.
  5. Demonstrate several mHealth interventions used successfully in the treatment of people with Serious Mental Illness.
