Carol Griffith

Dean Najarian, PharmD, BCPP

Carol Griffith, RPh, BCPP, is the pharmacy supervisor at the Capitol Region Mental Health Center in Hartford, which is part of CT’s Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS). This State facility treats over 1500 adult clients and provides services for young adults, forensics, addiction, general psych, mobile crisis, deaf and hard of hearing, as well as a small inpatient treatment unit.  Carol began her career in 1980 in psychiatric pharmacy because of interest obtained from a psychiatric pharmacy rotation while attending University of CT School of Pharmacy.  Carol attended the second annual CPNP meeting as well as the New England regional meeting which inspired her to become a board certified psychiatric pharmacist in 1999.

Carol enjoys the diversity of her day to day responsibilities that include dispensing prescriptions,  running medication education and smoking cessation groups, attending clinical rounds, and P&T activities and quality improvement projects. Carol’s daily involvement with clients has allowed her to follow patients over the course of their illness and see their recovery.  She has been able to see many successes i.e. clients being empowered to stop smoking, obtain employment, and reduce hospitalization through proper medication management.  This has been a very gratifying experience for Carol.

Carol has been a long standing member of CPNP and believes the organization has brought value to the practice of psychiatric pharmacy by providing practitioners a collegial environment by way of the list serve.  The educational opportunities CPNP provides both nationally and regionally are exceptional. She feels psychiatric pharmacy specialists really understand the complexity of serving this population as it relates to integrating mental and physical well being as one.
