Jolene Bostwick, PharmD, BCPS, BCPP, is a clinical assistant professor at the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy. Her passion for psychiatric pharmacy originated early in pharmacy school. In fact, her first rotation is where she now practices as a clinical pharmacist in inpatient psychiatry at the University of Michigan Health System. Favorite parts of her job include collaborating with the inpatient psychiatry team, comprised of physicians, nurses, social workers, activity therapists, and students of various disciplines, to optimize drug therapy for patients living with mental illness.

Dr. Bostwick leads a weekly medication education group for patients being treated on the unit. During these sessions and beyond, she encourages all patients to take an active role in their health care by asking questions and learning all they can about their medications. Pharmacy students and residents on rotation with Dr. Bostwick have the opportunity to engage with patients in this setting, facilitating a deeper understanding and opportunities to offer support to this patient population. She states, "educating patients is critical for me to excel in my position. In addition, showing students and residents first-hand how they can have an impact on this population is incredibly rewarding."
