Student Committee

This committee focuses on recruiting and servicing student members of CPNP. The ultimate goal is to encourage students to select psychiatric pharmacy as a career. The Student Committee is also responsible for the development, implementation and management of CPNP student chapters currently piloting in several states.

Charges to the Student Committee

  1. Continually encourage student chapter interaction with national mental health advocacy organizations (NAMI, MHA) for primary community outreach activities.
    Metric: Student Committee populates Student Hub web pages with content on how to reach local NAMI chapters. Student hub showcases student chapter activities with advocacy organizations. Student chapters will submit annual activity reports related to service activities with NAMI and/or MHA – May 2011.
  2. Continually maintain, refine and expand bylaws, guideline documents, structure, and goals of current student chapters of CPNP.
    Metric: Complete at least one review annually of existing documents to identify and make needed updates.
  3. Continually promote development of new student chapters.
    Metric: Documentation of all issues and completion and approval of all updated corporate and other documents. Send periodic emails to identified psych faculty to encourage student chapter formation – April 2011.
  4. By June 15, 2011, propose student focused programming to the Program Committee with focus on a “Clinical Psychiatric Pharmacy Case Challenge” at the Annual Meeting.
    Metric: Identify student committee member to be the liaison to the Program Committee – April 2011.
  5. By October 15, 2011, recruit student committee and student chapter members to man the CPNP booth at the Residency Showcase at the ASHP Midyear Meeting.
    Metric: Provide list of students to the Residency and New Practitioners Committee – October 2011. 
  6. By June 15, 2011, meet with the MHC to discuss a plan and schedule for submission of student chapter updates to the ENews or WU.
    Metric: First student chapter submission to ENews/MHC April 2011. Schedule determined for remainder of committee year.
  7. Implement a survey for completion by current student members and identified psychiatric pharmacy faculty to gather input on potential: (In development Jan 2011, to Board in Feb or March 2011; Distribution – April 2011)
    • Service projects
    • Dues structure and amounts
    • Fundraising ideas
    • Annual Meeting programming
    • Willingness to participate in local, regional, national meetings
    • Networking and social interaction ideas
    • Student interest areas in psych/neuro
    • Mentorship
    • Additional Needs (residency info, online resources [CV writing, rotations, etc.])
      Metrics: Development of survey questions and format for approval of the Board. Analysis and implementation of results.
  8. By August 31, 2011, submit three-year plan for growing student membership and services to Board for approval.
    Metric: Submission of report to the Board and any additional budget information.
  9. Continually maintain and update a list of psych faculty at US Colleges and Schools of Pharmacy for purposes of promoting new student chapters and student membership.
    Metric: Minimum of 1 mailing or email each year to the list to determine if they are the appropriate contact. Follow-up on undeliverables to locate replacement name. 

Charges to All Committees

  1. By June 30, 2011, as appropriate to each committee, appoint a liaison to the quarterly focus group to participate both as a CPNP member and as a representative of the committee’s interests.
  2. By June 30, 2011, submit committee recommendations regarding programming, workshops and roundtables to Program Committee. Note that all suggestions will be considered but not all can be accepted.
  3. Submit committee recommendations regarding possible member and non-member products and services to the Publications and Online Services Committee. Note that all suggestions will be considered but not all can be completed.
  4. Send a liaison to the quarterly focus group to participate both as a CPNP member and as a representative of the committee interests.
  5. Support The Mental Health Clinician by submitting timely content for publication as necessary, recommending relevant authors and sources as possible, and providing feedback as requested.
  6. As appropriate to committee efforts and planned scope of work, develop survey questions to include in the CPNP fall member needs assessment.
  7. As a committee and as individual members, support CPNP by:
    • Nominating individuals for leadership positions
    • Nominating individuals for awards
    • Contributing to and expanding the Shared Resources section of the website.
    • Participating in membership activities such as membership polls, the CPNP list, surveys, poster session, poster awards, etc.
