Colorado Springs and the 19th CPNP Annual Meeting served as the setting for the awarding of the 2016 Judith J. Saklad Memorial Award to Sally Guthrie, PharmD, BCPP, FCCP, Associate Professor at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

The Judith J. Saklad Memorial Award is presented annually to a senior psychiatric pharmacy practitioner who has achieved a level of professional distinction and represents the qualities and ideals of professional enthusiasm, a passion for optimizing patient care, and continuing dedication to the practice of psychiatric pharmacy. The Saklad Memorial Award is named after the late Judith J. Saklad.

Dr. Guthrie graduated Magna Cum Laude from The University of the Pacific School of Pharmacy in 1979 and completed a Clinical Pharmacy Residency at Duke University Medical Center from 1979-80. At the end of a National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAA) fellowship in 1986, Sally joined The University of Michigan College of Pharmacy as an Assistant Professor of Pharmacy.

Through the University of Michigan Substance Abuse Research Center (UMSARC), Sally began collaboration with Dr. Edward Domino, a distinguished researcher in Pharmacology. Sally helped Dr. Domino develop two NIDA-funded RO-1 grants in 1997 and 2006, respectively and was able to secure a NIDA funded RO-3 in 2011. During the award ceremony, Guthrie was recognized for over 120 pieces of scholarly work including over 60 peer-reviewed publications, her 30-year teaching career, her skill in mentoring 28 pharmacy students with their research projects, and her skill as a clinician.
