Session Summary

As pharmacists we need to be up to date with trends in substance use, so we are better equipped to identify and facilitate treatment for patients using new or emerging substances. These substances can lead to serious medical complications, including altered mental status, seizures, respiratory depression, and cardiac toxicity. Participants will learn about the pharmacology of new and emerging substances, including trending synthetic agents and those sold as dietary supplements or research chemicals. Potential medical complications, detection capabilities, and regulatory challenges will be discussed.
