Target Audience

This course is designed for pharmacists, nurse practitioners or other health care professionals involved in the comprehensive medication management of psychiatric and/or neurological patients.

Session Summary

Pharmacists do not typically receive training on transgender issues within PharmD programs, and furthermore may or may not be exposed to patients in this community during post-graduate training. As awareness of gender issues is growing, pharmacists require training and education in order to competently provide health care to these individuals and foster meaningful collaboration with other health care providers.

Participants in this course must complete an examination and achieve a score of 70% or greater. Successful completion of the course also requires the completion of a course evaluation. Learning Objectives

  2. Identify major safety concerns (e.g. mental health, medication management, physical harm) within this community.
  3. Review effective communication skills when speaking with transgender and gender diverse patients.
  4. Review treatment options for transgender and gender diverse individuals.
