Have you ever been asked, “What is a psychiatric pharmacist?” How many of us have wished that there was a resource that we can share with our colleagues, students and residents about what psychiatric pharmacists do and their value to patients and health systems?
Great news! CPNP and the Professional Affairs Committee has launched a campaign to promote psychiatric pharmacists to showcase our extensive knowledge and training and how we can improve the lives of the patients we serve. There is an expected shortage of psychiatrists and a growing need for additional qualified mental health clinicians to serve the 45 million adults with mental illness in any given year. Currently, there are more than 1000 board certified psychiatric pharmacists who can help meet the need by improving access and outcomes.
