Target Audience

If you are a pharmacist, nurse practitioner, or other health care professional involved in the comprehensive medication management of individuals living with mental health and/or substance use disorders, we invite you to participate in this online course.

Session Summary

Older adults with bipolar disorder (OABD) are a growing segment of patients with bipolar disorder (BD). OABD accounts for 6% of geriatric psychiatry outpatient visits and 10% of geriatric inpatient admissions. Additionally, 3% of nursing home residents and 17% of elderly in psychiatric emergency rooms have BD. Recently, in 2016, the international society for bipolar disorder arranged a task force to publish a brief report on treatment recommendations for OABD. There is a lack of OABD specific issues in existing guidelines. This program will educate participants about OABD, review guidelines and provide recommendations for treatment options for patients with OABD.
